Description: At once ephemeral and elemental, Impressions, No. 73 distills the elusive presence of a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle just beneath the ocean’s surface. Ripples act as both veil and brushstroke, abstracting the figure into a painterly field of jade and ochre. In this, the work echoes traditions of Japanese ink wash painting and impressionist modes, while remaining firmly rooted in the artist’s ongoing dialogue with the natural world of Kaua‘i.
